It's the latest episode of Cat Chat!

Today, we’re excited to highlight a group whose impact is felt in every hallway, classroom, and campus across our district, our maintenance team. From keeping our buildings safe and clean, to responding to unexpected issues at a moment’s notice, this team plays a critical role in creating an environment where our students can learn and our staff can do their best work.

We’re going to spend some time getting to know the individuals on this team, learning more about what their day-to-day work looks like, and recognizing the pride they take in what they do.

Throwback Thursday alert! History is fun!

We had a community member bring a box of his mom's Brandywine history in the other day and we found a brochure for the Brandywine Junior High Open House, when it was added onto in 1957. Brandywine Junior High is now Brandywine Elementary and it was initially opened in 1952. In 1957, the district included Bertrand School, LaSalle School (now Merritt), and Brandywine Junior High. They added 16 new classrooms that year to the Junior High!

This is cool!

Mr. Kennedy's English 12 class just finished the FoxFire series, a book series that looks at the cultural heritage of the people who lived in the Southern Appalachian mountains. Students had to pick something out of books that they were interested in and then prepare a 7-9 minute presentation. The interests ranged from summer and fall wild plant foods, to fiddle making and shoemaking.

Brandywine Senior Gracie McNamara presented on Spinning and Weaving. Our awesome Spanish teacher, Mrs. Flores, spins and weaves several different types of animal hair and wool. Gracie asked Mrs. Flores if she would weave while she presented! Mrs. Flores weaved while Gracie talked about what she was doing and how the manufacturing of textiles has changed and grown over the years, from back to ancient Grecian times to now.

We love a good collaboration! #thebrandywinedifference
