Brandywine High School art students will be taking part in an art show at the Niles District Library during the month of March!
Here is a sneak peek at some of our students' work. If you'd like to see more, make sure to stop by the library next month.

Yesterday was Cozy Up and Read Day for our first graders!

Students in Mrs. Kern’s Anatomy classes had an eye-opening experience yesterday!
They participated in a hands-on lab that allowed them to explore the complexities of vision, from the cornea to the optic nerve, through the dissection of sheep eyes. It’s one thing to read about how we see the world; it’s another thing to hold the lens in your hand!

Preschoolers enjoyed the melting snow yesterday in their froggy suits! Our little learners dressed up in their wet suits and pretended to fish in "Lake Merritt" on the playground. They experimented with leaves, ice, and wood chips to see if things would sink or float!

Our Instructional Coaches help our students thrive in the classroom environment by providing intervention methods for our teachers and paraprofessionals to utilize. Kindergarten through fifth-grade students receive intervention for math and reading during What I Need Now time, or WINN. Interventions are also used with behaviors.
Our Coaches recently created an "Intervention Menu," which is a quick guide for staff to reference when students may need academic assistance, motivation, or focus. A teacher may be encouraged to do a classroom "Wall of Fame," to motivate students by highlighting their personal interests, as opposed to their academic scores, or begin using the "Power of Yet." With the "Power of Yet," a student understands it's not that they aren't getting it, it's just that they haven't mastered it yet.
Students grow and succeed when they have the tools and supports that meet their needs. #thebrandywinedifference

February is Career and Technical Education Month!
Here at Brandywine, we offer cabinetmaking/carpentry, automotive technology, business, business management, accounting and finance, manufacturing technology, design technology/engineering, and broadcasting. Our students also have the opportunity to attend a wide range of CTE programs across Berrien County.
CTE is always about both career and college readiness; it is never a choice between the two. Did you know that more than 65% of jobs are of a skilled and technical nature? Find out more about available programs by visiting https://berrienresaorg.finalsite.com/programs/career-technical-education.

Deputy McG spent some time last week with friends in Mrs. Alstott's class! She helped students with their worksheets, while students taught her about the book they are reading, Loki and the Dwarves.

We're highlighting members of our staff! 🐾
Meet David Roeder, High School Social Studies Teacher, with an amazing 32 years teaching at Brandywine under his belt. Mr. Roeder has a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Arts in Education. The best part of his day is teaching civics class.
Mr. Roeder is an avid Detroit Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes fan!
We are happy to have you as a veteran Bobcat, Mr. Roeder!

The Valentine's Day parties at Merritt Elementary were the bee's knees!

It's National School Resource Officer (SRO) Day!
We are lucky to have two wonderful deputies at Brandywine - Deputy McG and Deputy Duthler. Our SROs build relationships to foster a positive environment, handle campus security, and act as liaisons between schools and law enforcement. We are so grateful to have these two as Bobcats!

Second graders had a special Valentine's Day treat yesterday - they went to Wonderland Cinema in Niles to see Zootopia 2!

This Week in Photos!

In Mrs. Anderson's sixth grade math classes, students are learning about surface area so students brought in their own Rubik's cubes to build with. Today, they also created and constructed their own cube.

It's the 100th Day of School! Our kindergarteners and first graders dressed up for the parts! These little "old people" sure are cute!

Our sixth grade science students in Ms. Zeller's science classes are using microscopes, some of them for the first time. They were fascinated by what they saw, such as that under the microscope, sand looks like glass crystals. Due to popular demand, they spent two days working with microscopes instead of just one!

The Brandywine Golf team is offering a chance for you to get your very own Brandywine branded golf bag! Orders are due by February 13. If you are interested in purchasing one, order here: https://forms.gle/xnQDUSGYQp3Xvkwm8

Our students in Ms. Little's DK class made heart sun catchers yesterday, just in time for Valentine's Day!

Reminder: Midwinter Break is February 13-16! There will be no school for students.

Second graders dressed up like they're 99 years old for the 99th Day of School! They have a field trip tomorrow, so they celebrated a little early. Look at these cuties!

Join Superintendent Travis Walker, a group of fourth grade inventors, and their teachers, as they discuss their recent CKLA Inventors Unit and the inventions that created on their own.
