Last week, the middle school Humanities class had a fun end to their unit on architecture!

Student teams were challenged to build the tallest “skyscraper” out of carefully stacked boxes and the strongest house of cards. Two teams tied with towers scaling 7 feet tall and one team now holds the all time record of a house of cards that could hold 11 Chromebooks on top.

It's Teacher Appreciation Week! We asked our community what makes our teachers so special. Here's what they said:

“I remember a day in Mr Miller's class, where he tried to teach us a lesson about being specific about things. He taught us by bringing a bag of bread, jelly, peanut butter, and a knife.

We wrote on pieces of paper instructions on how to make a PB & J sandwich, and he did exactly what the paper said, so he smeared peanut butter and jelly on the bag of bread!”

An incredible time was had at the Michigan Alternative Education Organization (MAEO) annual conference in Traverse City last week! Teacher Mrs. Vide and Director of Special and Adult Education, Mrs. Sorensen-Simpson, soaked up new strategies to boost student engagement and looked for ways to build even stronger bridges with our local business community. They are excited to bring these connection opportunities back to our students! 🍎💼 #MAEO2026 #AlternativeEd #CommunityPartnerships

Meet Maddi High, GSRP Teacher at Merritt Elementary! Mrs. High has been at Brandywine for six years. She has a bachelor's degree in Elementary and Early Childhood and a master's in Trauma and Resiliency.

Her favorite part of the day is choice time with her students so she can see all of the creative ideas they have during their play! In her free time, she loves to go camping and exploring with her husband and dog! They want to try to visit all of the national parks.

Thank you for being a part of the team, Mrs. High!
