The fourth grade class recently completed their year-long project involving the incubation and rearing of Chinook salmon within the classroom! On May 10, they released 126 salmon into the Dowagiac River.

The Salmon in the Classroom Program, administered by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, allows teachers to raise approximately 200 Chinook salmon eggs from fall through spring. This provides students with the opportunity to observe the salmon’s life cycle in real time, from egg incubation to the stages of fry and smolt development.

Brandywine 8th Grade and High School Bands combined to make an almost 100 member marching band for the Niles Memorial Day Parade yesterday! We are so proud of the professionalism of our students. They gave up a portion of their holiday to participate in an event that is at the heart of what Memorial Day is all about.

Yesterday was Read and Feed at Merritt Elementary for the ABC Countdown, which means our students cozied up with snacks and good books!

Our first graders had the perfect day at the Potawatomi Zoo this week! They had so much fun!

Groundbreaking on the new Career & Technical Education Center addition will take place on June 1 at 4 p.m. at the back of the MSHS, near the soccer fields. We invite the community to come out and celebrate this huge step forward for our district. See you there!

Mr. Copper the Therapy Dog has been a busy little guy! When students collect enough positive behavior tickets, they can turn them in for a visit with Copper! Several students chose to spend some time with our furry friend this week.

Students in Ms. Carew's middle school Humanities class learned to play the card game "Golf" last week!

The Golf card game is a popular, easy-to-learn game where the goal is to get the lowest score possible, much like real golf. Played over nine "holes" (rounds) with a standard deck of cards, players strategically swap and discard cards to achieve the lowest sum in their layout.

Yesterday the middle school and high school choirs visited the elementary to give students a sneak peek into joining the program when they reach the MSHS!

MSHS students had a chance today to let their voices be heard!

There was a forum for students this afternoon with the Superintendent search firm where students were asked what qualities they want to see in Brandywine Community Schools' next leader. Their insights will help narrow down the position profile! Community members may also join in on the conversation at 5 p.m. tonight, before the Special Board Meeting at the Brandywine Middle/Senior High School Media Center.

Students in third grade are preparing for their trip to Warren Dunes next week! They've been researching the area and creating travel brochures for their destination.

There will be a Community Forum on Tuesday, May 19 at 5 p.m. at the Brandywine Middle/Senior High School Media Center. This will provide members of the community a time to provide input into the position profile of the next Superintendent. We hope to see you there!

Friday was Career Day at Merritt and Brandywine Elementary! Students learned about different career options and were able to have some hands-on experiences! Thank you to our volunteers who helped put together this opportunity!
