We're so proud of Owen, one of our bright head start students who joins our teachers at Merritt for special education time! Last week, Owen was a rockstar during his Social Emotional Learning (SEL) activity.

He worked on recognizing and naming different feelings by creating pictures that describe his emotions. Understanding how to express yourself is such a crucial skill for young learners, and Owen is making amazing progress!

What's making some noise in our second-grade classroom? It's the long "u" sound! This versatile vowel can sound like the start of 'unicorn' 🦄 OR the 'oo' in 'ruler' 📏.

Ask your second grader to tell you a long "u" word tonight! You might be surprised by how many they know!

Staff at Merritt worked hard on a community service project last week! They were able to make over 75 spaghetti dinners and over 50 Birthday boxes! Each bag/box included a hand written card and everything a family needed for dinner/dessert! All of the boxes were delivered to the Salvation Army right here in Niles!

Ms. Coleman's first graders are working on improving their reading rate! They have also been practicing adding more expression and increasing their accuracy when they are reading. Ask your kiddos to read to you at home to see how much they've improved!

We believe that every student should have solid literacy and math skills while also feeling a sense of connection with their peers, school staff and community. When these three foundations are in place, students thrive! That is why our district, in partnership with other schools across the county, is working toward three common goals focusing on just that - literacy, math and belonging. #BerrienTHRIVES

IMPORTANT!! It has come to our attention that we are missing many Education Benefit Forms from our families. Not having these submitted to the state could potentially cause a significant decrease in funding, lunch programs, and more. Please, if you have not filled out this form yet, regardless of if you think you qualify, we ask that you fill it out by a 7 p.m. deadline tonight. We appreciate your quick response in this matter.

Find the form here, it will take 5 minutes. https://brandywine.familyportal.cloud/benefits/onlyapplying
