First graders in Mrs. Skinner's STEM class had "Working Together Wednesday" today! They worked in groups to build Lego structures while learning teamwork and problem-solving.
Nothing beats those Developmental Kindergarten friendships.

Community Circle time!
Our elementary classes have Community Circle time each week to come together as a class and get to know one another. Each student gives an answer to a posed question such as “What is something you are good at?” or "What color of a dragon would you like to have and what would you name it?"
This time gives students the opportunity to be respectful and focused listeners.

Our elementary students celebrated International Dot Day in art class last week! International Dot Day is a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration held every year on or around September 15.

Bippity-boppity-boo 💫 Second graders officially wrapped up their Fairy Tales and Tall Tales CKLA unit this morning with a flapjack breakfast fit for royalty!
Belle, Cinderella, ferocious dragons, Paul Bunyan, and a room full of our favorite storybook friends all gathered for a truly royal feast!

Ms. Ackerman’s class turned into word detectives yesterday, counting up all the words in their sentences. We are building stronger readers and writers, one word at a time!

Second graders are building math communities with their new Illustrative Math Curriculum! This math program emphasizes collaborative math work as well as use of manipulatives such as cubes, counters, and base ten blocks to help reason math.
The students have also been playing a math game called "What's Behind My Back?" It is a hands-on math game designed to build number sense. Students count 10 small objects together, hide a few behind their back, show the rest in one hand. Their partner must then figure out what's left behind their back!

Work on the CTE Center and Merritt Gym continues!
CTE Center: The current major task on the CTE Center is the erection of the Pre-Engineered Metal Building: Putting up the metal frame and walls of the building. Next up is installing the main pipes, wires, and ducts underground before pouring the concrete floor.
Merritt Gym: Currently installing the metal edges, gutters, and flashing along the roof to seal out rain and give it a finished look, as well as running main utility pipes, electrical wires, and AC/heating ducts through the ceiling. Up next is priming and painting the walls and hanging the actual doors and installing their knobs, locks, hinges, and handles.

Schedule Change: The Mini and Mighty Catwalk will be Friday, September 18 at 6:40 p.m., prior to the football game.
Kindergarten students are invited to meet our Seniors at the 50 yard line to "pass the Bobcat pride." Kindergarten families should meet at "Nate's rock" where the football team enters at 6:30 p.m.

Kiddy Cats League registration will be Monday September 14 and September 21 from 5-6 p.m. in the Brandywine Middle/Senior High School Cafeteria! This basketball league is for all Brandywine girls in grades DK-6th grade. The cost is $50 or $40 a piece for siblings.
Practices will begin the week of September 28. Games are played on Sundays.

After wrapping up The Emperor's New Clothes during their fairy tale unit, Mrs. Reed's second graders stepped into the role of royal fashion designers to create new outfits for the Emperor!
This week is NWEA testing for students in kindergarten through tenth grade!
NWEA testing is used to measure student growth in math, reading, language, and science in a given school year. Students take it at the beginning of the year and then retake it later on to see where their skills are.
Here are some growth highlights from last year's testing:
-District-wide (grades K-10): 59% of students met their Math growth goal
-58% of students met their growth goal in Reading
-70% of Merritt students met their Math goal
-64% of middle school students met their Math goal
-65% of middle school students met their Reading goal
