This is cool!
Mr. Kennedy's English 12 class just finished the FoxFire series, a book series that looks at the cultural heritage of the people who lived in the Southern Appalachian mountains. Students had to pick something out of books that they were interested in and then prepare a 7-9 minute presentation. The interests ranged from summer and fall wild plant foods, to fiddle making and shoemaking.
Brandywine Senior Gracie McNamara presented on Spinning and Weaving. Our awesome Spanish teacher, Mrs. Flores, spins and weaves several different types of animal hair and wool. Gracie asked Mrs. Flores if she would weave while she presented! Mrs. Flores weaved while Gracie talked about what she was doing and how the manufacturing of textiles has changed and grown over the years, from back to ancient Grecian times to now.
We love a good collaboration! #thebrandywinedifference

She graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in Music Education and completed her master's degree in Trombone Performance there, as well. She taught conducting, music theory, and aural skills classes during her time at WMU. She actively performs as a trombonist in the Southwest Michigan Area, is an adjunct faculty member at Lake Michigan College, and serves as an M.S.B.O.A. Band and Orchestra and Solo and Ensemble adjudicator throughout the state. She was voted by her peers to receive Quinlan and Fabish's "Outstanding Music Educator" Award in 2023.
"I love watching the students benefit and thrive in our unique band community. It is very special to me when students tell me they look forward to band class and I can watch them grow and blossom musically and with their character over the years they are in the band program."
Thank you for your hard work, Ruth!

Seniors picked up their caps and gowns today! Only 26 days left of their high school careers.

Welcome to Adulthood, Seniors!
Today, our Seniors are Funding Their Futures. United Federal Credit Union brought their Financial Reality Fair to Brandywine. Students were given a pretend job, with a pretend salary, and had to plan their budget based on what they had available. Budget line items included: leisure activities, lifestyle, transportation, housing, and more. At the end, if a student's budget was in the negative, they had to go back around and figure out where they went wrong and fix it. (Wouldn't that be nice if we could do that in real life!?)
Special thanks to United Federal Credit Union for helping our students learn how to create a budget!

Eighth graders played a classic round of The Oregon Trail recently!
It turns out that managing oxen and river crossings is a lot harder than they expected. The class had one successful arrival in Oregon, but plenty of broken wagon wheel axels and dysentery on the way. Who remembers how stressful 8-bit graphics can be!?

Teamwork makes the dream work (and the eggs hop!)
Big thanks to our National Honor Society members for teaming up with the Niles Service League to get things ready for the town’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. Thousands of eggs are officially stuffed and ready to be hidden!
We’re so proud of our NHS students for giving back to the community that gives us so much.

Elaine Starr, Jude Skinner, Norah Skinner, Emma Pomranka, Cooper Saddison, Grant Livengood, Sydney McBrier, and Colby Metz participated in District 6 MSBOA Middle School Honors Band at Andrews University on Monday. All of them learned music and performed it in one day and worked with guest clinicians. Way to go, Bobcats! Great job!
