what is a sinking fund

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Brandywine Community Schools will have a proposal on the ballot for a renewal of its Sinking Fund. A Sinking Fund is used to fund construction, renovations, and repairs throughout the district.

The renewal will be for ten years for a rate of 1 mill. This will not be a new tax, though due to the Headlee rollback, less than a full mill (.9913) was levied on properties in 2024, so property owners may see a very slight increase. This millage will provide estimated revenues of $424,000 during the 2026 school year if approved and levied.

“At Brandywine Community Schools, we are committed to providing safe, modern, and efficient learning environments for our students,” said Superintendent Travis Walker.

“This sinking fund proposal is an important step toward protecting our community’s investment in our schools by addressing critical infrastructure needs without increasing the tax rate.”
